  1. ¶3WHAT'S THE POINT OF....

  3.         ..attending to a competition ?
  4.  
  5. ¶2By THE CLASH of ANGELICA...

  8. ¶1   I wrote this article since I felt I
  9. wanted  to  say  something  about  the
  10. voting-systems  at  parties.   I guess
  11. the  subject  has  been very common to
  12. many   of  the  scene-guys  of  today,
  13. because  they  feel unfair threaten on
  14. the  parties !  (I would appreciate if
  15. someone could respond to this article,
  16. because  I think that it's a case that
  17. concerns almost everyone).

  19.    I  guess  everybody wants to become
  20. famous  because  of what they're doing
  21. in  the scene.  One way to really take
  22. the big step, is, for instance winning
  23. a  compo  at  a party.  What's the big
  24. deal    to   contribute   to   a   big
  25. competition,  when  you  know that you
  26. will  be  pissed  off by the results ?
  27. You all know that there usually is two
  28. different  ways  to  judge  a compo; A
  29. jury  with  only skilled persons, or a
  30. voting-system.   When I was present at
  31. "¶3THE   GATHERING   '92¶1",   there  were
  32. actually both !  A jury picked out ten
  33. different   contributions  first,  and
  34. then   people  got  to  vote  for  the
  35. vinner.   I, personally didn't like it
  36. that  way.   You see, many well- known
  37. groups  and persons weren't picked out
  38. of  the  jury  at  all, so they became
  39. pretty  upset  by  the way it had been
  40. done.  (Oh, please don't misunderstand
  41. me  and  think  that I think that it's
  42. only  the  well-known  and good groups
  43. who  make  awesome  productions  !)  I
  44. found  it  very  funny, because when I
  45. asked  0ystein  Eide of ex-M.O.N.  why
  46. he  shouldn't compete he answered:What
  47. is  the point of competing when I know
  48. that  Jumbo of Cola Crew will win ?  I
  49. think  that  0ystein  had  a very good
  50. point  when  he  said  that, because I
  51. think  that  everybody who contributes
  52. to  the  competitions  want to win, so
  53. there's   no,   or   less   point   to
  54. contribute  when  you  know  that  you
  55. won't  win  anyway  !   (Why do people
  56. compete at all ?  To win ofcourse !)

  58.    Ok,  I'll  now  look at some of the
  59. advantages  and disadvantages with the
  60. two different systems;

  62. ¶3A   jury   ¶1(¶2advantages¶1):   
  63. -They will always know what is very
  64.  skilled made (if it's about music,
  65.  for   example;effects,  style,  etc.)
  66. -They will save a lot of time and
  67.  other technical problems (such as
  68.  no  need  of voting-teminals/systems)
  69. -There's a limited opportunity to,
  70.  for instance bribe a jury instead
  71.  of lots of contacts, friends, etc.

  73.     ¶1(¶2disadvantages¶1):
  74. -They  pick out, for instance what's
  75.  skilled  made, instead  of what the
  76.  people likes
  77. -No  democracy, in other words; they
  78.  can't reflect  the peoples opinion,
  79.  they  only pick  out what they like
  80.  themselves

  82. ¶3Voting ¶1(¶2advantages¶1):
  83. -It  will  reflect  peoples opinions
  84. -The  winner  wins  because he makes
  85.  popular  productions,   not  neces-
  86.  sarily very  skilled  or well-done,
  87.  but cool to listen to or look at
  88.  
  89.     ¶1(¶2disadvantages¶1):
  90. -Most  people  often  vote their own
  91.  style instead of what's well-made
  92. -Often chaos under voting
  93.  
  94.  
  95.    Well,  I guess there's many more as
  96. well,  but  right  now I can't come up
  97. with  any  more.  I also have to admit
  98. that  since  I'm  a musician myself, I
  99. strictly thought on music when I wrote
  100. the  dis/ -advantages list.  It's also
  101. very  difficult to be objective when I
  102. have  my  own  opinion  myself, so you
  103. might  think  that I judge unfair now,
  104. but I think that voting-systems is the
  105. best  way  to  judge the competitions.
  106. At least everybody have a chance then,
  107. and the winner is reflected on peoples
  108. opinions,  not  whether  it's  skilled
  109. done, or a new style, but it's cool to
  110. look at or listen to.  If you think it
  111. over,  you might have the same opinion
  112. as   me   !    After   all,   I  guess
  113. voting-system   is   more   fair   for
  114. everyone.    At  least,  everybody  is
  115. given  the same chances.  (What I mean
  116. is  that  you  don't  actually need to
  117. have   good   reputations   to  win  a
  118. competiton  on  a party if you're very
  119. skilled anyway !)

  121. ¶2   Ok,  I  guess  it's time to finnish
  122. this  awesome  article,  but  before I
  123. quit,  I  would  like if anybody could
  124. write  a  similiar article on the same
  125. subject.   (After  all,  this  article
  126. reflected more of my own opinions than
  127. peoples own reactions !)
